Divine Service for 8/124/14 and the Gospel of Matthew: 16; Pastor Houser’s sermon. A gift is freely given – however wages are earned and thus owed. We feel we need to give something in return when we get a gift- but we can’t give anything to God in return as we are beggars. The wages of sin is death. We are nothing but gravel prior to God working in our lives. We can never repay the debt of forgiveness and salvation. Jesus has done it all for us but it is a gift freely given. He who believes and is baptized will be saved.
